ACCIONA Cultura Leads the Xiaomi Film Festival | Innovative Cultural Events

The premiere was held on 2 September in Madrid and featured the screening of 7 short films made with Mi 11 smartphones.

One of the short films has been created by the Oscar-winning director for Best Live-Action Short Film, Chris Overton.

This edition is part of a global event and the only one held face-to-face.

ACCIONA Cultura was selected by Xiaomi to design, produce and organise the Xiaomi Film Festival, an annual event that premiered on 2 September at the Cineteca of Matadero in Madrid.

This is the only event associated with this international competition with a face-to-face format and was attended by some 100 guests.

Spanish journalist and presenter Alicia Senovilla was master of ceremonies at the event, which brought together leading professionals from the sector to enjoy a selection of 7 films made with Xiaomi’s top-of-the-range Mi 11 smartphones.

The short films have been created by filmmakers from around the world under the theme “The New Normal” and share a message of hope that “something incredible is about to happen”, facing these uncertain times with optimism.

The participants of this first edition include Oscar-winning director for Best Action Short Film, Chris Overton; the technological influencer Arun (aka Mrwhosetheboss); Xiaomi creators Vincenzo De Caro and Eduardo Ohara; and renowned Italian and Thai directors Gabriele Muccino and Nattawut Poonpiriya.

The festival also presented the piece “Twenty Summers”, the only short film made in Spain, and which has been produced together with the Spanish film school TAI Escuela Universitaria and the young director Oscar Villarroya.

The films premiered in the first edition of the Xiaomi Film Festival are the following:

  • Leader, by Chris Overton, Oscar winner.
  • One Billion Views, by Mike Harvey and starring Arun Maini, AKA “MrWhoseTheBoss”.
  • Renaissance, by Vicenzo de Caro.
  • Simply Co, by Eduardo Ohara.
  • Twenty Summers, by Oscar Villarroya.
  • The Reels Deal, by Nattawut Poonpiriya
  • Living in a Movie, by Gabriele Muccino

Through creating this event, Xiaomi aims to promote opportunities for the sector on a global level, offering a space for filmmakers from around the world to share their work and creations with fans of the brand and lovers of the seventh art.
