Multimedia show – A Coruña, Spain
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño (APD) carried out the Luz e Son de Hércules audiovisual show, that was projected on the Tower of Hercules, located in the city of A Coruña, as part of the celebrations of the 10th Anniversary of the declaration of the monument as World Heritage of Humanity.
The Torre de Hércules is the only lighthouse dating from Roman times that has retained its structural integrity and continues to fulfil its original function.
APD combined history and mythology to show the cultural importance of the Tower of Hercules, which was used as a gigantic screen 36 metres high and 24 metres wide, as it was projected on two sides of the Tower, each 12 metres wide.
The show features the Tower of Hercules itself and an old sailor, who talks about the sea and his love-hate relationship with it, because of storms; and it tells the story of this World Heritage site while also developing a spectacular, moving tale driven by 3D effects and a specially-commissioned soundtrack. The story is shared equally by the character of the old sailor and the Tower of Hercules, personified with a female voice. This makes it possible to tell the story from two complementary viewpoints: the emotional and poetic standpoint of the old sailor, the more historical, epic story of wisdom set in stone, personified by the Tower.
As a result of ACCIONA’s full commitment to sustainability in all its activities, this show was carbon-neutral; in other words, the related CO2 emissions were calculated and offset through a clean energy project, so that the final balance of emissions was zero.
