ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño (APD) took part in the 3rd Gaudi World Congress, where the director of the Museum Implementation Department, Manuel Fernández, presented the company’s experiences in immersive technologies.

The third edition of the Gaudi World Congress took place on 6 and 7 July at Astorga’s Episcopal Palace and was attended by 150 delegates and 17 speakers from around the world to explore the life and work of the Catalonian architect, Antonio Gaudi. The theme of the congress was “Inspiring the future by going back to the origins”. The inaugural event was led by the provincial governor of León, the Bishop of the Astorga Diocese and the mayor of Astorga.

The congress programme was structured around six thematic sessions: SocietyLeadershipNew EconomiesEnvironmentDesign and New Technologies, drawing on experts from the areas of business, universities, architecture, design, research, art and culture to study Gaudi’s working methods and values.

In the Design session, Manuel Fernández, director of the Museum Implementation Department at ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño, gave a presentation on “How to design an immersive experience”, in which he highlighted “the need to create innovative ways of reinterpreting heritage with a more participative focus”. He said that “new technologies and interaction with social media have made the traditional model obsolete, so our main focus is to offer specialized solutions that capture the imagination of 21st-century visitors, enabling them to participate directly in the narrative.” Manuel shared some examples of immersive projects developed by the company that focus on the visitor by integrating the latest technological advances with criteria such as accessibility and sustainability.

The third edition of the Gaudi World Congress will be held throughout 2018-2019 in Barcelona, Beijing, Rancagua (Chile) and Astorga. The event was organized by the Gaudi World Congress and Astorga City Hall, with the collaboration of the Bishopric of Astorga and the Provincial Government of Leon through the Cultural Institute of Leon.

In parallel with the Astorga scientific congress, the city hosted an extensive program of complementary activities on the 6th and 7th for the general public, such as exhibitions, concerts, shows and guided tours.
